South Dakota leads the way in The Summit League Commissioner’s Cup standings following the winter sports season in the 2017-18 academic year with 49 points.
The Coyotes are also first in the Dr. Helen Smiley Women’s All-Sports Award Standings, while South Dakota State is atop the Dr. William Steinbrecher Men’s All-Sports Award Standings.
South Dakota holds a slim lead over South Dakota State, which has 48 points. North Dakota State comes in third with 39.5 points, followed closely by Denver with 38.5 points. Oral Roberts (32 points), Omaha (27 points), Western Illinois (24 points) and Fort Wayne (18 points) round out the poll.
After ending the fall season in second place, the Coyotes raced to the top of the standings with a first-place finish in women’s basketball and a trio of second-place showings in men’s swimming & diving, women’s indoor track & field and men’s basketball.
The Jackrabbits, who were tied with the Coyotes for second place in the fall, captured first place in men’s basketball and had second-place performances in men’s indoor track & field and women’s basketball. Both USD and SDSU have finished in the top three in all but two of its respective eligible sports.
