The South Dakota men’s team and North Dakota State women’s team each lifted the 2015 Summit League Indoor Track & Field Championship team trophies Saturday afternoon..
For South Dakota, it was the men’s third-straight league championship while the Bison women extend their league record to eight-consecutive team titles.
South Dakota collected 222 points to lead the men, followed by runner-up North Dakota State with 171. South Dakota State tallied 106 points to round out the top three. For the women, host NDSU scored 231 points and runner-up South Dakota tallied 180.5. South Dakota State finished with 114.5 for a pair of third-place finishes.
Erin Teschuk (NDSU), Madison Reynolds (ORU), Teivaskie Lewin (USD) and Mach Dojiok (USD) each won two events as six Summit League Championship meet records were broken and two more were matched Saturday.
Individual Summit League Championship awards were awarded along with the team trophies. Head coaches of participating Summit League teams voted on the awards based upon the student-athletes’ performance during the championship meet.
Maddie Van Beek of North Dakota State (women) and Teivaskie Lewin of South Dakota (men) were each voted Track MVP of the Championship. Receiving Field MVPs of the Championship for the women was NDSU thrower Emily Lesser while USD jumper Jeff O’Connell received the award for the men. Newcomers of the Championship were presented to Gawain Williams (men) and Shanice Cannigan (women) of South Dakota.
