The South Dakota women’s soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in its regular-season opener but ultimately fell 4-2 to Wyoming Thursday.
Junior Amanda Carpio gave USD an early 1-0 lead in the 13th minute when she connected on shot landing in the upper-left corner of the goal. South Dakota entered intermission with the 1-0 lead.
In the 51st minute, freshman Tiannah Moore recorded her first-career goal giving South Dakota (0-1) the 2-0 lead.
Wyoming answered back just 30 seconds later as Amber Vokoun picked up a missed shot from Summer Taube and placed the ball into the back of the net. The Cowgirls then knotted the game at 2-2 in the 64th minute on a goal from Annika Clayton.
The go-ahead score came from a scrum in front of the goal where Elaine Webber poked the ball to Brittney Stark who was able to find the back of the net in the 66th minute. Clayton tallied her second goal of the game in the 74th minute off a free kick from 22 yards out.
