Deron Powers scored a game-high 18 points and teammate Rokas Gustys had 10 points and a staggering 25 rebounds to lead Hofstra to a 65-57 win against South Dakota in the third place game of the Gulf Coast Showcase.
South Dakota got 15 points from Tyler Flack and 13 from Trey Dickerson, but shot a season-low 30 percent from the field in falling to 5-2. The Coyotes return to Vermillion to host Montana at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
Gustys’ 25 rebounds is an NCAA Division I high this season. It is the sixth-highest tally in Hofstra history and a single-game Gulf Coast Showcase record.
