Coyotes Defend Titles

South Dakota juniors Hunter Wilkes and Amber Eichkorn defended their league titles on the first day of the Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

 

Wilkes cleared 13 feet, 3 ¾ inches with the fewest misses to reclaim her crown. Sophomore Emily Brigham had one more miss at a lower bar to finish runner-up while also making it over 13-3 ¾. Indoor league champion freshman Sierra Maddox tied for fourth with a height of 12-10. Freshman Madeline Aune and junior Janelle Noga took seventh and eighth, respectively, at 12-4. The Coyotes grabbed a total of 25.5 points in the event.

 

South Dakota added 24 more points in the 10,000 meters with a podium sweep. Eichkorn led the way by defending her title in a Summit League Championship meet record time of 35:18.59. Junior Kelsey Barrett finished runner-up in 35:35.76 and freshman Bethany Kozak placed third in 36:13.66.
