South Dakota junior Erin Wetzstein has been named the Summit League Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday.

Wetzstein collects the award for the first time of her career.

Wetzstein led the Coyotes to a runner-up finish at Iowa’s NCAA Regional Preview over the weekend in a field that included three regionally-ranked opponents. South Dakota improved to ninth in the latest USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Ranking.

A native of Hudson, Wis., Wetzstein dropped her personal best by a half minute and finished in 21 minutes, 47 seconds. She took sixth out of the 73 finishers. Wetzstein turned in the league’s top time, 30 seconds faster than any Summit League foe this season. The Coyotes have the top four 6,000-meter times in the Summit.
