Junior Amber Eichkorn made South Dakota women’s cross country history on Friday as she became the first Coyote in the Division I era to qualify for the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.
Kansas State’s Laura Galvan and Eichkorn, who finished ninth and 10th at the NCAA Midwest Regional, received the NCAA’s two at-large bids to the NCAA Championship meet. The top four individual finishers not on a qualifying team from each region received automatic berths to the meet.
The Wichita, Kan., native recorded a career best 6,000-meter time of 20 minutes, 30.2 seconds at the NCAA Midwest Regional meet on Friday. Eichkorn raced to South Dakota’s best finish at the regional meet and earned all-region honors with 10th place.
Eichkorn will race at the NCAA Division I National Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. The women’s 6k will take place at 11 a.m. (CST) on Nov. 22. A live webcast will be available on NCAA.com.
