South Dakota sophomore Miles Bergner is one of 24 collegiate place kickers honored by the Fred Mitchell Award for his excellence on the football field and in the community for the month of September.

Bergner made all eight field goals and all 10 extra points during the first four games of the season. He also averaged 50 yards on 23 kickoffs. Off the field, Bergner has volunteered his last two summers to coach high school football in his hometown of Longmont, Colo. He also performed community service with his teammates throughout fall camp. Bergner helped hang two miles of orange construction fence for a hot rod show.

Bergner is one of 13 FCS kickers honored this month and is the only sophomore in the group of 24.
