South Dakota senior Carlton Hurst placed fifth in the 30th annual State Farm College Slam Dunk Championship hosted by St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas.
Hurst tallied 33 points from the panel of four judges and was boosted to 42.8 points with a fan vote conducted through Twitter. Hurst did a reverse dunk, bringing the ball below his knees before bringing it back up for the two-handed jam.
The four judges included basketball Hall of Famer George Gervin, NBA Champions Sean Elliott and Bruce Bowen and three-time NBA Dunk Champion Nate Robinson.
Joseph Kilgore, out of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, won the event featuring eight of the nation’s top dunkers.
