The first weekly awards for basketball in the Summit League go to a pair of University of South Dakota players.
South Dakota sophomore guard Allison Arens has been named the Summit League Women’s Player of the Week.
Arens earns her first career weekly honor after leading South Dakota to a pair of opening weekend wins against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and Stephen F. Austin. Arens averaged 24.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, five assists, two steals and just 1.5 turnovers per game. She shot 62.5 percent (15-of-24) from the field, 66.7 percent (4-of-6) from 3-point range and 83.3 percent (15-of-18) at the free-throw line.
A native of Crofton, Neb., Arens scored a career high 28 points on 9-of-14 shooting against SIUE while also grabbing a career high seven boards. She followed that performance with 21 points at home against SFA, handing out a career high six assists and swiping a career high three steals.
University of South Dakota forward Trey Burch-Manning (Federal Way, Wash.) has been named Summit League Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his opening-weekend performance Nov. 11-13.
Burch-Manning recorded back-to-back double doubles in leading the Coyotes to a 2-0 start, their best at the Division I level. He recorded game highs of 24 points and 11 rebounds in Friday’s 79-74 win at Drake. He posted game highs of 14 points and 11 boards in Sunday’s 78-72 win against Bowling Green in USD’s home opener. For the week, Burch-Manning shot 63 percent from the field and was 12 of 18 from the free-throw line. He had three assists and one block.
