Amy Klyse, the second-most winningest coach in the history of University of South Dakota softball, has announced her resignation following 10 seasons with the team including the last nine as head coach.
She leaves following 211 wins and trips to the Summit League Tournament in all four years of the program’s eligibility. The Coyotes were tournament runners-up in 2015.
“I’d like to thank Kim Zarling for giving me a position at USD, Joel Nielson for the original opportunity to lead this program, and our administration for its continued support for me and this program,” said Klyse. “It has been an incredible journey that has been so great because of my staff along the way, our wonderful support staff here, and my awesome players and alumni.
Klyse and the Coyotes won at least 28 games in three consecutive seasons from 2013-15 and scored a lot of runs to get there. In 2015, for example, USD ranked 28th (out of 289) nationally in scoring and 27th in batting average. That same year, the Coyotes blasted a Summit League record 77 home runs.
Klyse successfully transitioned South Dakota softball from the Division II era to Division I. South Dakota is 54-45 in Summit League play, finished no lower than fourth in the standings the last four seasons, and placed second in 2015.
