COVID Aid Going to Dairy Producers

The president is threatening to veto the COVID Relief Stimulus Package passed by Congress this week. The bill included $11.2 billion of direct aid for farmers, with $1 billion targeted at the dairy industry. Minnesota Milk Producers Association Executive Director Lucas Sjostrom says also included are supplemental Dairy Margin Coverage payments for farmers who have increased their DMC production history since 2014.

He says while they welcome the support, they have some long-term concerns for the industry.

He says while federal aid is appreciated most producers would rather get their income from the market.

Congress also included $400 million to go to help the donation of dairy products for food distribution to minimize food waste.
