When Kyle Shanahan took over as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers last year, Kirk Cousins was one of the potential franchise quarterbacks he had in mind.

The 49ers wound up with Jimmy Garoppolo instead, before Cousins became a free agent and picked the Minnesota Vikings. But Shanahan still has a fondness for Cousins since he was the offensive coordinator in Washington for Cousins’ first two seasons in the NFL.

They’ll be on opposite sidelines this weekend when the 49ers visit the Vikings. Sunday’s game kicks off at noon.
