The U.S Court of International Trade has upheld countervailing duties imposed against Argentina for its shipment of subsidized biodiesel to the United States. The case began in 2020 when the U.S. Commerce Department found Argentina was engaging in unfair trade practices and had duties slapped on them. National Biodiesel Board’s Paul Winters says the court decided those duties will remain in place on Argentina.
He says the decision on those duties will remain under review for a two year time period.
Winters says the duties were originally imposed, Argentina hasn’t shipped any biodiesel to the U.S. giving the U.S. a competitive market. He says if they do export biodiesel to the U.S., Argentina would then be subject to these duties.
Winters says there are about 400 million gallons of biodiesel that would be impacted by the duties
