A U.S. District Court has ruled the Environmental Protection Agency has until April 30 to enforce Ambient Air Standards under the Clean Air Act. Nebraska Farm Bureau National Affairs Coordinator Jordan Dux says the ruling is concerning not only for Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers, but for consumers as well.
The court ruling involves rules dating back to 2015 and the Obama Administration when the rules were tightened on ozone standards of particulate matter from 75 parts per billion to 70 parts per billion. Dux says there needs to be a cost benefits analysis done before any of these regulations are allowed to proceed.
He says it’s important for the EPA and other federal agencies to work with farmers and ranchers before writing regulations because they’re working hard to be environmentally responsible.
The District Court ruled in favor of the suit brought by the American Lung Association, American Public Health Association and several environmental groups.
