Court Battle Continues Over Beef Checkoff

A court battle is continuing between NCBA, the Organization for Competitive Markets and HSUS. Both HSUS and OCM want information on an audit of the beef checkoff released from the Office of Inspector General. NCBA wants to intervene in the case. OCM President Mike Weaver says he expects NCBA will be granted that request, but all his group is concerned about is the proper information gets out as to how check off funds are being spent.

He says neither his group or HSUS believe the checkoff money is being spent properly or that it’s doing cattle producers any good.

Weaver also says claims NCBA officials have made that the OCM and HSUS lawsuit is an attempt to divide the beef industry and weaken the beef checkoff doesn’t make sense.

The lawsuit filed in 2014 by OCM is asking for the release of 9,300 pages of documents related to OIG’s investigation into the beef checkoff program.
