The U.S. House is expected to consider repealing Country of Origin Labeling. The House Ag Committee has already approved a COOL repeal measure. National Farmers Union’s Senior Vice President of Programs, Chandler Goule, says some agriculture groups are agreeing that the rule should be repealed.
Goule says while his group will continue its fight to protect COOL in both the House and Senate, the chances of it surviving an attempt at repeal in the House aren’t good.
The World Trade Organization found the U.S. Country of Origin Labeling law to be trade distorting last month. That ruling allows Canada and Mexico the opportunity to seek punitive tariffs against the U.S. They must first go through a WTO process that could take until the end of this summer.
