The Obama administration is defending mandatory country of origin labeling at the World Trade Organization despite efforts in Congress to repeal or change the law into a voluntary program. Ranchers-Cattlement Action Legal Fund CEO, Bill Bullard says the U.S. Trade Representative is defending the mandatory law against attempts by Canada and Mexico to place tariffs on the United States.
Bullard says once Canada and Mexico threatened the U.S. with retaliation, COOL opponents stepped in to dismantle the law.
Bullard says the W.T.O. will hold a public hearing in mid September to hear arguments from Canada and Mexico on what damages they incurred as a result of the U.S. COOL law.
