Food prices have increased over the past year, and the same is true for the traditional Thanksgiving meal. A nationwide survey conducted by the American Farm Bureau Federation shows this year’s Thanksgiving meal for ten people has gone up nearly 20 percent over last year. Roger Cryan is an economist with the American Farm Bureau Federation. Cryan says the primary food survey looked at the cost for fresh cranberries, carrots and celery, stuffing, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, dinner rolls, and the turkey. He says additional items such as Russert potatoes, green beans, coffee, milk, and ham are included in an expanded survey. Of all the mentioned food items, Cryan says the stuffing showed the largest year to year increase. The Farm Bureau economist says there was one surprise to the nationwide Thanksgiving meal food survey. The cost of the meal for ten people is around $68 dollars, or about six dollars and fifty cents per person.
