The Corps of Engineers is slowly reducing flows from Gavins Point Dam on the Missouri River near Yankton after a dam failure on the Niobrara River sent a surging wall of water into Lewis & Clark Lake.
John Remus, Chief of the Missouri River Basin Water Management Division in Omaha, says they hope to step down the releases over the next few days..
Remus says by raising the spillway gates they were able to contain most of the surge from the Niobrara…

The level of the Missouri River at Springfield near the head of Lewis & Clark Lake jumped almost nine feet following the dam failure.
