Farmers have been busy with the harvest, and that means elevators are busy too — including the Farmer’s Cooperative Elevator in the northwest Iowa town of Craig. The general manager of the Craig cooperative grain elevator, Doug Schurr, says despite the summer’s dry conditions, followed by the early autumn’s wet spell, the corn yields have been surprisingly good.
Schurr says the only thing that keeps the corn from being perfect is the moisture.
Schurr says it appears most of the farmers in his trade area are close to wrapping up for the season.
Schurr is concerned about having adequate storage capacity and says they may have to set up an outdoor bunker to help store the grain.
