House Agriculture Committee ranking member Glen Thompson says the Senate passed Growing Climate Solutions Act is a big government solution in search of a problem. He says its critical to examine what effect government intrusion has into voluntary carbon markets South Dakota Corn Grower’s Association President Scott Stahl says farmers need to be paid for the carbon sequestration they’re doing and the whole process must be transparent.

He says they want to see what the final climate solutions package looks like in the House before they support it or the Senate version.

Stahl says it’s very important Congress make sure corn growers get their fair share of the funding for implementing positive climate practices.

The Senate measure establishes and Advisory Council to provide input to the USDA and ensure the program remains effective and works for farmers.
