Corn President Wants National Rules For GMOS

The GMO labeling fight in Oregon isn’t over yet as the ballot issue appears headed for a recount. Voters earlier turned back an initiative that would have required labeling of all GMOs. The vote totals show the initiative losing by fewer than 1500 votes. South Dakota Corn Grower’s President Keith Alverson isn’t surprised the biotech issue is heading for a recount. He says national standards are needed rather than these statewide rules that may differ or confuse consumers.
Alverson says the job of educating consumers continues and they are demanding more information which they have a right to.
Alverson says there’s no doubt biotechnology is safe and that science proves it. He says that message needs to be communicated effectively to consumers.
