Corn President Says Trade Barriers To Ag Biotech Must Be Lifted

House Agriculture Committee members have written to USTR Katherine Tai and Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack expressing concerns over non-tariff trade barriers on ag biotechnology products. Sharing those concerns with those barriers being put up by China and Mexico is Iowa Corn Grower’s Association President Carl Jardon.

He says most U.S. corn growers use biotech and without that technology it would be difficult to feed a growing world population.

Jardon says his group appreciates what both the USTR and Ag Secretary are doing to go to bat for corn growers on these important issues. He’s hopeful other open trade positions are filled soon to add to that assistance.

Mexico’s regulatory authority has not issued a biotechnology approval in over three years and China has been delaying its b.t.. import approval processes.
