President Elect Donald Trump has nominated Iowa Governor Terry Branstad as Ambassador to China. Iowa Corn Growers Association President Kurt Hora says Governor Branstad is a great selection for that job and will be very beneficial for agriculture.

He says having Governor Branstad as Ambassador to China will put him in the position to influence the new President and help him have a more reasonable approach to trade in general and to relations with China.

Hora says because Branstad understands agriculture so well, it should help convince the Chinese to lift recent barriers they’ve put up to biotech products and renewable fuels.

Hora says they also have a good working relationship with Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds who’ll become Iowa’s Governor with Branstad moving on to the Ambassador’s job following his confirmation.
