New export opportunities for U.S. corn co-products are emerging in Southeast Asia. Both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are importing U.S. dried distillers grains with solubles. South Dakota Corn Growers Association President Troy Knecht says that trade news is encouraging as the U.S. is poised to harvest a large corn crop this year.
He says global demand for DDGs is continuing to rise.
Knehct says much of the business from Sri Lanka and Bangladesh came due to the work of the U.S. Grains Council.
Bangladesh imported nearly 135,000 metric tons of U.S. DDGs this marketing year which is up over the last two marketing years. Sri Lanka’s imports of U.S. DDGS increased 8.2 percent year over year to nearly 22,000 metric tons.
