Ballot measures in Oregon and Colorado that would have required labeling of G-M-Os were rejected by voters in those states this week.
South Dakota Corn Grower’s President Keith Alverson is pleased those initiatives were defeated.
Alverson says different state laws make things confusing for consumers rather than informing them.
Had the Colorado measure passed any prepackaged or processed food or raw agricultural product made using G-M-Os would have had to be labeled as produced with genetic engineering. The Oregon measure that failed cost $ 28 million spent by both opponents and proponents of the labeling.
