Brazil’s agriculture ministry is seeking the approval of U.S. biotech corn imports, possibly as early as this fall. South Dakota Corn Growers President Keith Alverson says that’s a very positive development that will help not only U.S. growers but growers in Brazil as well as their livestock producers needing the feed source.

He says it’s also positive that Brazil’s National Biosafety Technical Commission is scheduled to meet September first to address the potential approval of U.S. biotech corn imports.

Besides Brazil, China is looking at pushing for biotech soybean production within its borders. Alverson says that could also be very helpful for U.S. farmers.

China is also encouraging more crop rotations with corn.
