Corn Leader Concerned Ag Secretary Says He May Support RINS On Exports

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says he could support allowing exported ethanol to qualify for RINS credits as long as they eventually would lead to domestic ethanol usage to reach 15 billion gallons as required by law. South Dakota Corn Grower’s Association President Troy Knecht calls that concerning.

He says the Trump administration is giving mixed signals on whether or not they support the RFS. Knecht says there’s a lack of understanding on what the RFS is and its importance.

Knecht says if biofuels backers have to take this matter to court it’ll be costly and counterproductive for the industry.

Both Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue and EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt have been directed by the President to review an option that would allow exported ethanol to qualify for Renewable Identification Numbers or RINS.
