The National Corn Growers Association is calling for action to open markets with the potential for this year’s record corn crop in mind. NCGA Board member and South Dakota Corn Grower’s President Keith Alverson says that’s needed along with strong volume requirements for the renewable fuel standard of at least 14.4 billion gallons.
Alverson says when the final RFS numbers come out not only is the proper methodology needed but also the higher volumes as well.
Alverson says if EPA fails to stick to those higher volumes it will reduce the demand for corn for ethanol and have a significant impact on corn prices at a time when prices are already too low. This year’s record corn crop could reach an estimated 15.2 billion bushels.
