Corn In Central Iowa Hit Hard By Derecho

Farmers in Central Iowa, mainly in Story county were among those hammered by the Derecho storm that swept across the state. Story County Extension Field Agronomist Meaghan Anderson says there was as variable amount of damage to the corn from field to field.

She’s been getting a lot of questions from producers as to what to do with whatever crop survived.

Anderson says for the most part soybeans fared pretty well with some fields leaning. She says the corn was a different story.

Anderson says most of the farmers were insured with the likeliest bigger issue for insurance being on the infrastructure that was damaged.
