Corn Growers Welcome RMA’s Extensions For Crop Insurance

USDA’s Risk Management Agency is extending crop insurance flexibilities for producers during COVID 19. Under the extension, producers will have more time for electronic notifications and signatures with the new deadline being July 15, 2021. Given the adversity faced by corn farmers in 2020, these extensions are welcome according to Iowa Corn Grower’s Association President Carl Jardon.

He says crop insurance remains a critical safety net for corn growers.

Jardon is hoping with a new administration coming in and the writing of a new farm bill on the horizon that crop insurance will be protected. He’s optimistic due to the return of Tom Vilsack as Agriculture Secretary.

Jardon says bean counters tend to attack crop insurance in trying to cut funding from it or cut it out entirely but most who understand agriculture understand that crop insurance in the long run not only helps farmers but also is a cost effective program.
