Corn grower leaders across the country meeting in St. Louis this week called on President Donald Trump to make the Environmental Protection Agency uphold the Renewable Fuel Standard. They want the EPA to restore gallons of ethanol lost when small refinery waivers were granted. Iowa Corn Grower’s Association President Jim Greif says the supplemental rule proposed by the EPA fails to restore lost ethanol volumes.
He says the agreement reached between the Administration and biofuel supporters would restore actual biofuel gallons that were waived.
Greif says the supplemental rule proposed by the EPA is based on Department of Energy numbers which only returns half of the biofuel demand lost.
Greif says if he could talk directly to President Trump, he’d say, Mr. President you made a promise, we need you to follow that promise. The EPA is not above the law, it needs to follow the law and a deal is a deal.
