Corn Growers Set Priorities, SD Leader Attends

Corn growers from across the country were in the nation’s capital last week attending Corn Congress, the NCGA’s annual summer business meeting. South Dakota Corn Grower’s President Keith Alverson of Chester says they’re already preparing for the next farm bill and working to form coalitions to push farmer’s interests with federal lawmakers.

He says one of the key issues they’re talking about with Congress is the need to retain a solid crop insurance program.

Alverson says another important priority is to get more mid-level blends of ethanol available for consumers and to gain support for higher volumes in the RFS.

He says Corn Congress attendees also expressed their appreciation for the House recently approving the Senate’s Biotech Labeling Bill which pre-empted any state laws.
