Corn growers’ presidents from 23 states along with the president of the National Corn Growers Association have written a letter to President Biden asking him to intervene in the Mexican decree to block all corn imports containing biotechnology starting in January of 2024.  Dennis Friest serves as the president of the Iowa Corn Growers Association and says it is the Mexican president, and not the buyers of corn that want to block GMO corn.  Friest says Mexico would be violating the agreed terms of the US-Mexico-Canada agreement if they insist on stopping GMO corn from entering its country.  Friest says nearly 90 percent of all corn grown has GMO traits.  The Iowa corn grower’s president says they are seeking the assistance of President Biden, U-S Trade Ambassador Tai, and USDA Secretary Vilsack to help with the fight.  Friest says if necessary, they will go to court.  President Biden is scheduled to meet with both the Mexican president and the Canadian prime minister in early January.  Friest says corn growers want this issue to be front and center during those discussions.  Friest says corn growers have worked hard establishing the export market with corn, ethanol, and dried distilled grains.  He says if Mexico goes ahead with this action, it will cripple the U-S corn market.
