Corn Growers President Pleased Senate Ag Committee Holding Trade Hearing

The Senate Agriculture Committee will hold a trade hearing this week to look at how USDA’s mitigation trade package numbers were arrived at. The panel will meet with USDA Chief Economist Robert Johansson who put the formulas together. Corn growers got the least in compensation with only a penny a bushel. South Dakota Corn Growers President Troy Knecht says that’s like basically getting nothing.

He says while that’s a meager number for corn growers, what’s really needed is better and more trade deals.

Knecht says resolution on the trade war is needed but doesn’t expect anything to happen anytime soon.

The Senate hearing is scheduled for Thursday morning. Also attending are Greg Doud, Chief Ag Trade Negotiator and Ted McKinney, USDA Undersecretary for trade and foreign agricultural affairs.
