Minnesota Senator Tina Smith has been named to both the Senate Agriculture and Energy and Natural Resources Committees. Minnesota Corn Grower’s President Kirby Hettver says his group is pleased to have Minnesota represented on both of those committees. He’s hoping Senator Smith can be brought up to speed on the new farm bill and will add to the success they’ve had working with ag staffers on that legislation.

He’s hoping having Smith on the Energy Committee will help them with important renewable fuel issues and backing of the Renewable Fuel Standard.

Hettver says they worked well with Senator Smith when she served as Lieutenant Governor and hope to continue that moving ahead.

Besides the Agriculture and Energy Committees, Smith was also appointed to the committees on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions as well as the committee on Indian Affairs.
