Corn Growers Concerned EPA May Not Re Register Atrazine

The Environmental Protection Agency is taking public comments on their re registration of Atrazine that could outlaw the use of the herbicide. The National Corn Grower’s Association says without Atrazine being available, it will cost growers $ 2.5 billion in yield losses and increased production costs. Iowa Corn Growers Association President Bob Hemesath says that would be devastating.

The latest assessment on Atrazine from the EPA indicates ecological risks from using the product. Hemesath says Atrazine has been proven safe time and time again.

He says the EPA is not following proper science in their assessment of Atrazine.

Hemesath encourages farmers to comment on the EPA proposal before the October 4 deadline. To comment go to Iowa corn.org
