The National Corn Growers Association wants Congress to pass legislation withdrawing the Waters of the U.S. rule. Corn Grower’s Director of Public Policy, Ethan Matthews says that comes in the wake of the Senate and Environment Works Committee advancing a bill that eases requirements for pesticide permit applications.
Matthews says even the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has expressed concern with the direction the EPA has taken the regulation.
He says the Sensible Environment Protection Act provides enough direction and regulation for farmers who are applying pesticides.
Matthews is hoping Congress will act within the next couple of months to pass the bill calling for withdrawal of the rule. He says in the meantime, they continue to try and work with EPA to convince them to rescind the regulation.
