President Donald Trump says the just reached trade deal in principle between the U.S. and Japan will involve large Japanese purchases of U.S. corn and wheat. National Corn Grower’s Association President and Nebraska farmer Lynn Chrisp is pleased with the deal and says it’s something they’ve worked on for quite awhile.

South Dakota Corn Growers Association Executive Director Lisa Richardson is also happy about the deal and says not only does it involve large corn purchases but also a great opportunity for ethanol.

Chrisp says besides the initial benefits with having a trade pact with Japan, it also bodes well for other future deals as it shows potential trading partners how reliable the U.S. is when it comes to trade.

Trump says the agreement with Japan is a very big transaction and that Japan will be buying lots of corn from America’s farmers.
