Iowa Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst want federal financial assistance for the state’s farmers and ranchers hurt by the Derecho storm that raged across the state in August. The Senators want crop insurance payment deadlines extended to help out. Iowa Corn Grower’s Association Chairman Jim Greif says that would be helpful.

He says financial assistance to help producers replace damaged infrastructure will be needed down the road.

Greif says the Senators have asked Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross to get the Section 232 tariffs on steel lifted which would help in getting machine sheds and storage facilities repaired and replaced.

Greif says it will take producers a long time to recover from the Derecho storm.
