Officials at the Iowa State University Veterinary Diagnostic Lab say they’ve received numerous questions from southwest Iowa producers about corn mold during this harvest season. Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist Aaron Sauegling says there has been some moldy corn showing up, but it’s fairly isolated.
He says the biggest challenge producers have been facing is trying to get soybeans combined.
Sauegling says as a result of the uncooperative weather farmers have been switching over and harvesting corn before beans.
Sauegling says soybean yields have been averaging about 60 bushels an acre in southwest Iowa, with corn yields between 190 to 200 bushels an acre.
