The fate of the corn check off is slated to be decided by Iowa legislators this session. The measure, HF 2427 has passed the House and is scheduled to be heard in the State Senate Ag Committee this week. Iowa Corn Grower’s Director of Government Relations Mindy Larsen Poldberg says HF 2427 if approved would allow farmers in the future if they so choose to hold a referendum to the corn check off.
Poldberg says the intention of HF 2427 is not to raise the check off right away but to plan for the future.
Check off funding is used for promotion, research and education and is decided by corn grower members in a referendum.
