Late last week, hundreds were charged in a federal crackdown on Medicaid and Medicare fraud. Director of Medicaid Fraud and Patient Abuse Unit at the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office Mark Collins this was a state and federal take down.

Dozens of doctors were included in the crackdown and are accused of excessive billing to the agencies for drugs, tests, treatments or procedures. Nearly one-third were charged with a crime related to opioids and other controlled substances. Collins says fraud hurts everyone from the taxpayer to the people who legitimately rely on Medicaid or Medicare for their health care needs.

Officials say the false billing totals more than one-million dollars.
