Cooperative leaders will be weighing in with the House Senate conference committee as they iron out the final tax reform package. Neither the Senate nor House tax measures included the Section 199 deduction, that co-ops pass down to their farmer members. South Dakota Association of Cooperatives Executive Director Brenda Forman says their priority is getting it restored or some type of deduction passed to replace it.
She says elimination of the Section 199 deduction would negatively hit South Dakota cooperatives and farmer members.
Forman says its critical for cooperative leaders and members to talk to their Senators and Representatives and explain to them the importance of Section 199 and how it works.
Forman says her group is working with Senators John Thune, Chuck Grassley and Pat Roberts, as well as Congresswoman Kristi Noem, to get Section 199 in the conference report or at least a deduction replacement.
