The Boards of Directors for North Central Farmers Elevator and South Dakota Wheat Growers have announced their member owners have voted against unification of the two co-ops. The two will continue serving their respective members as separate entities. Lannie Mielke of the Anti Merger Alliance was pleased with the decision. He says his main concern was lack of competition had the unification gone through.
Mielke says it’s good the cooperatives members made the decision.
South Dakota law requires that a majority of eligible members of each cooperative vote in favor of a unification agreement before the unification can go into effect. The final vote as certified by the auditing firm Eide Bailey fell short.
