The calendar may indicate it is time to plant this year’s row crops. However, with soil temperatures still below 50 degrees many farmers are waiting for warmer conditions. Sara Bauder is an SDSU Extension agronomist and says only a few South Dakota farmers have begun planting corn and soybeans.
In northeast Nebraska, UN-L Extension Educator Wayne Ohnesorg says four-inch soil temperatures are warming, but still plenty cool.
The latest crop condition report shows farmers are behind schedule from last year, but close to being on pace with the five-year average.
