COOL Receives Renewed Support from South Dakota Stock Growers

The South Dakota Stock Grower Association members renewed their support of Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling. Stock Grower’s President Bob Fortune says it’s premature to talk about repealing the law when most consumers and producers want it.

Fortune says the amount of retaliation by Canada and Mexico isn’t nearly as much as was talked about earlier. He says if a trade war were to occur, both Canada and Mexico would be the losers.

He says just about every country has their own labeling law, so it’s inconsistent for Canada and Mexico to demand the U.S. drop theirs.

Fortune says mandatory country of origin labeling has succeeded since it was first passed and has benefitted both producers and consumers
