COOL Proponents Don’t Like Anti Label Language In Budget Bill

Photo: WNAX

Country of Origin Labeling opponents have been successful in getting language included in an omnibus appropriations measure that would delay the law’s enforcement.  R CALF CEO Bill Bullard says while there’s not anti COOL language in the conferee’s farm bill package, there is in the Omnibus bill.

Bullard says that’s the rule that calls for labeling where meat is born, raised and slaughtered. He says his group hasn’t yet figured out how to stop the Omnibus language from proceeding.

Bullard says the fact the language got in the Omnibus budget package without a Congressional Committee hearing or vote shows how powerful the meat packing lobby is in their attempts to kill COOL. The Omnibus Appropriations Bill passed the House Wednesday afternoon.
