COOL Backers Not Surprised At Court Re Hearing Request

Country of Origin Labeling opponents including U.S. and Canadian meat groups are asking the U.S. District Court of Appeals for a re hearing. They want a chance to argue before all the judges in the district again in their attempt to have the law thrown out. National Farmers Union’s Vice President of programs, Chandler Goule whose group supports COOL doesn’t like opponents having the issue dragged out when they’ve already lost three court decisions.
Goule doesn’t think the meat groups have a very good chance of obtaining a re hearing.
The COOL opponents made up of the U.S. and Canadian meat groups are concerned about Mexico and Canada retaliating against the United States with punitive tariffs if the U.S. court decision holds up and if the WTO rules against the U.S. over the labeling law.
